Mayor Broome Addresses Financial Planning Amid COVID-19 Pandemic


BATON ROUGE, La. — April 7, 2020 — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced a series of online workshops Tuesday to educate residents on financial planning and applying for assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of these online workshops is to raise awareness about the importance of financial literacy and the need for effective financial education in light of the rollout of the federal stimulus checks to the public.


Baton Rouge-based non-profits are partnering with Mayor Broome’s office to launch the series of online financial literacy workshops. They include: Capital Area United Way, Hope Ministries, Junior League of Baton Rouge, Louisiana Jump Start, and the EmployBR Program.


These online workshops are designed to help families with financial planning and educate them on how to gauge the longevity of their anticipated stimulus checks. These checks will be distributed to qualified recipients starting in mid-April.

  3. April 21: Securing Relief Services during COVID-19

  4. April 23: Breaking Down the Unemployment Process

  5. April 28: Creating a Game Plan for an Emergency Reserve

  6. April 30: Assessing Spending Habits During COVID-19 and Beyond, A New Normal for Money Management
