The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association have agreed on changes to fully vaccinated players’ health and safety protocols.
The information was released in a memo sent to teams on Wednesday, ESPN reports.
The changes to the protocols apply to any player who is “two weeks past their final dose and any team where 85% of players and 85% of staff are fully vaccinated.”
Those who are fully vaccinated will no longer need to quarantine following exposure to COVID-19. Those individuals can also have friends, family and other visitors at home or on the road without a COVID-19 test or registration requirements.
Teams that are fully vaccinated will not have to wear masks at the practice facility, will be offered flexibility to leave the hotel while traveling on the road and they can dine at restaurants.
It is unclear how many players in the league have been vaccinated.
Some top players expressed hesitancy about accepting invitations to participate in league-sponsored events and public service announcements about the COVID-19 vaccines.
After NBA All-Star Weekend, LeBron James said it was a “private family decision” when asked if he would get vaccinated.
Some players and staff members with the New Orleans Pelicans received their first dose after eligibility requirements changed in Louisiana.
According to the Associated Press, they are the first NBA team to report vaccinations for many players.
