MILWAUKEE—A powerful, new video released tonight at the 2020 Democratic National Convention highlights how far America has come in its attitudes and efforts to protect women against domestic violence, thanks to then-Senator Joe Biden’s leadership on the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
In “When You See Something Wrong,” those who worked with Biden during his time in the Senate explain how ambitious VAWA was when he introduced the legislation—during a time when domestic violence was treated as a private matter, not a heinous crime. But Joe Biden believed it was time to do the right thing, so he brought people together on behalf of victims to pass a landmark bill. As President, Joe Biden will always give a voice to the most vulnerable among us, and take on the tough challenges in pursuit of a more perfect union.
Heard in tonight’s video:
Dr. Jill Biden
Victoria Nourse - Special Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee (1990-1993)
The Honorable Carol Moseley Braun - U.S. Senator, Illinois (1993-1999)
Valerie Biden Owens
Ron Klain—Chief Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee (1989-1992)
