BATON ROUGE, La. – Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Volunteer Louisiana are pleased to announce over $5.2 million in grant funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) for the 2019-2020 service year. The grants will support 16 AmeriCorps State programs which will engage over 900 AmeriCorps members to help meet critical needs across Louisiana. These grants will be matched with $5.2 million in local support and will provide over 3.7 million in Segal Education Awards for participants.
“AmeriCorps members make a difference every day in Louisiana and have been indispensable during times of natural disaster,” said Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. “I am proud to support their efforts and to promote national service as a solution to help meet local needs.”
Louisiana AmeriCorps members will serve school children throughout the state as tutors, mentors, and teachers, improve health and safety outcomes for kids and families, address food insecurity, improve housing, engage veterans helping veterans, provide environmental restoration, and respond to natural disasters.

These AmeriCorps grant awards will support both current programs and new ones that expand the geographic and focus area footprint of national service in Louisiana.” said Judd Jeansonne, Executive Director of Volunteer Louisiana.
Volunteer Louisiana, located in the Office of Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, manages 16 AmeriCorps State Programs, promotes volunteerism, and coordinates spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteers in times of disaster. It is supported by grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service.
